New commenting experience
Features
The new commenting experience includes improvements and changes to the Updates section of Adobe Workfront objects.
Among the improvements included in the new commenting experience are the following:
- Improved performance and user experience
- Separation of user comments from the system activity updates
- Real-time indicator when new comments are added to an object
- Editing comments after submitting them
The following features have been removed or will be deprecated from the new experience:
- Comment on a system update
- Ability to edit status, condition, commit date, and percent complete while commenting on tasks and issues
- Edit custom form
- The “on behalf of < user name >” information when a Workfront or group administrator logs in as another user and adds a comment on their behalf was originally removed. It has been reinstated on October 19, 2023.
- The “Ask for approval” option when you tag people while adding a comment to a document.
- The “Show percent complete on update status” setting when editing a user’s profile box will be removed. The functionality of updating the percent complete of a task or issue has been removed.
- The notification for the Project Owner in the Updates area that the assignee of a task or issue edited the commit date

Release timeline
The following is a planned timeline with key milestones for the release of the new commenting experience to the Production environment. In addition to the milestones below, we will continue to improve the commenting experience with smaller enhancements.

The following is a planned timeline for the release of the new commenting experience:

With the 23.2 release (April 6, 2023):
- Launch the commenting experience Beta for issues
- Release the new commenting experience for goals (as the only experience)

With the 23.3 release (July 20, 2023):
- Launch the commenting experience Beta for projects, tasks, and documents.
- Release the new commenting experience for cards in the Boards area (as the only experience)

During the Fourth Quarter 2023 release (limited release, only available to customers that choose the fast release):
- Release the new commenting experience for templates, template tasks, programs, portfolios, teams, users, and timesheets (as the only experience)
- Update the commenting experience Beta for projects, tasks, issues, and documents to become the default option. The “Beta” label is removed.

With the Fourth Quarter 2023 (23.10) release (October 26, 2023)
- Release the new commenting experience for templates, template tasks, programs, portfolios, teams, users, and timesheets (as the only experience) to all customers.
- Make the new commenting experience for projects, tasks, issues, and documents the default option.
note important IMPORTANT This will conclude the Beta stage of the new commenting experience. - Make all features released for the new commenting experience starting with this date part of the current regular monthly and quarterly releases.

End of 2023:
- Keep the legacy commenting experience as a secondary option for the following objects: projects, tasks, issues, and documents. The new commenting experience is the default option for all users for these objects.
- Make the new commenting experience the only experience for all other objects.
note note NOTE Iterations will continue to have the legacy commenting experience. The new commenting experience will not be available for iterations. -
Second quarter of 2024 (April 2024):
- Remove the option to switch back to the legacy commenting stream and make the new commenting stream the only experience for all objects, with the exception of Iterations.
Locate the new commenting experience
The new commenting experience is currently available for all customers and for all environments.
Depending on what objects you access the commenting experience for, you might see the following functionality for the Updates section:

Both the new and legacy commenting experience for the following objects:
- Project
- Task (this includes Stories)
- Issue
- Document
note tip TIP Use the New commenting option to display the new commenting experience (when you enable it) or the legacy commenting experience (when you disable it), as described in this section. The new commenting experience is the default. -
Only the new commenting experience for the objects listed below. There is no option to enable the legacy commenting experience for these objects:
- Goal

Iterations
There is no option to enable the new commenting experience for iterations. Only the legacy commenting experience is available for iterations.

To enable the commenting experience option for projects, tasks, issues, and documents:

Go to an object that you want to activate the new commenting experience for, then click Updates in the left panel.

(Conditional) If it is disabled, enable the New commenting option in the upper-right corner of the Updates area to enable it. This should be enabled by default.

Start typing an update in the Comments tab. The Comments tab is the default tab when the new experience opens

Click the System Activity tab to view the activity updates generated by Workfront.

(Optional) To disable the new commenting experience and return to legacy commenting, deselect the New commenting option.
